Title: Director, Consumer Research Product Innovation
Salary: OPEN

Description:

Consumer Products company is looking for a Director for their product and Consumer Science division. This position requires a highly experienced qualitative and quantitative researcher, possessing a high level of strategic vision, critical thinking, excellent analytical and collaboration skills with a passion for consumer centricity, which will be responsible for leading studies for the different brands. The role work with a team and have up to 4 direct reports so leadership experience is a must.

Responsibilities:
  • Identifies and translates consumer needs, insights and behavior to guide the development of innovative and consumer relevant beauty products.
  • Able to manage effectively the design and execution of complex Consumer research projects in both Quantitative and Qualitative studies to ensure clear and actionable insights are generated.
  • Lead the definition of Consumer testing plans to generate the appropriate knowledge to link key business strategies to performance measures.
  • Broad knowledge of Qualitative and Quantitative consumer methodologies, that could address multiple objectives for a clear understanding of the project need, studies, and make actionable recommendations that impact product development for future launches and meet business strategies.
  • Represents the voice of the consumer within the organization; presents research findings and implications.
  • Produce and support team members in creating succinct reports highlighting key insights that can be translated into compelling actionable recommendations.
  • Identify and implement new, forward thinking evaluation techniques and methodologies for the future of consumer evaluation.
  • Identify, maintain and grow a network of External vendors, looking for innovative approaches so consumer testing can be executed with the highest quality standard.
  • Utilize the existing digital tools, such as online communities, influence panels, to identify and/or complement study results for an enhanced research learning.
  • Able to effectively translate and present results and insights to business users at the Manager / Director / VP level
  • Ability to manage junior staff from different backgrounds
  • Leadership within cross functional teams; collaborate with the team to seamlessly integrate and extract qualitative insights with quantitative findings
  • Collaborate with Sensory, Instrumental and Expert teams to help integrate the output of these sciences into the consumer learnings. Work with consumers, sensory/consumer scientists and formulators.

Requirements:
  • At least 10-15 years of relevant experience in qualitative and quantitative product testing, including design, execution, analysis and reporting.
  • BS or Master’s in Market Research, Psychology, Sensory Science, Integrated Innovation or related field.
  • Able to translate consumer insights into actionable recommendations to drive exceptional consumer satisfaction a must.
  • Adaptable leadership style with a high sense of curiosity and tenacity to ask the right questions and follow through with answers.
  • Strong diplomacy, influencing and leadership skills
  • Experience in social media analytics, design thinking, visual and motion communication
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, in a fast-paced environment under short deadlines, tolerance for business ambiguity; the ability to thrive under quickly changing situations; adaptable, with ability to meet short turnaround times
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Must have excellent vendor management skills; this includes exploring new suppliers, and research techniques.
  • Experience with management of online communication a plus
  • Experience with innovative and creative methodologies and consumer centric approaches a plus.
  • Have designed and led ethnographic research a plus
  • Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, data entry and statistical software programs
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US on an on-going basis
